The Hunting Heritage Trust's "50 Best Guns Ever Made" auction is featuring one quality example of each of the "50 Best Guns Ever Made", as named in a Field & Stream magazine cover story by David Petzal.

As an added bonus, in the case of a select few of the "50 Best"-- such as the Ruger Mark I-- the Trust has teamed with the manufacturer to produce a Limited Edition of 50 specially engraved guns in honor of that model's selection as one of the "50 Best Guns Ever Made".

THE ONE AND ONLY TEXAS EDITION

These 50 special edition guns are being limited to just one gun per state-such as this "One of One" Texas Edition.

Although the Mark I is no longer in production, the Ruger Mark III carries on the tradition and legacy of the Mark I. The special gold engraving on the left side of the frame proudly proclaims:

Ruger Mark III

Building on the Legacy of One of "The 50 Best Guns Ever Made"

Texas

One of One

The rear of the bolt features a custom gold logo which states:

Mark I Ruger Mark III

50 Best Guns Ever Made

In naming the Mark I to the "50 Best Guns Ever Made" list, David Petzal said, "William B. Ruger's first venture into the gun; business failed, but he knew what he had done wrong, and his second attempt is the stuff of legends. He went into partnership with the artist Alexander Sturm, and Sturm, Ruger & Co. be gan selling a .22 semiauto pistol that looked a lit tle like a German Luger and sold for the low (even for 1949) price of $37.50. This delightful little gun was rugged, accurate, and simple to manufacture. It was a huge and instant success. In 1951, Alexander Sturm died, and the red Ruger eagle on the Mark I grip was changed to black in mourning, but the pistol has remained intact." The Mark I evolved into the Mark II and then the Mark III.
